Everything about 'Rookie' - the new single by Finnish duo LCMDF (Le Corps Mince de Francoise) fills us with extreme joy, from the good-enough-to-eat artwork made from squidgy fluoro plasticine to the hook which calls out male-dominated music culture; “I’m so done with the metal scene / I’m so done with dudes who think they’re better than me,” sings LCMDF's Emma Kemppainen, gleefully, over crescendoing bass. Kemppainen says she was encouraged to write the track as a response to "a dude" in the music industry who told her she shouldn't write good songs, "but make them more stupid....Then he offered to re-write our album. I thought that was the worst idea ever, so I wrote a song to him." If 'Rookie' hasn't been elevated to uber hit status by the end of the year then we'll eat our Christmas hats. -AW
